Travel diary

16. September Um 1.30 kam ich in Perth an.Perth and the Swan River Es war sau kalt.

Perth also has a free transport system called CAT which takes you around the city.

Nach meheren Stundes es rumhaengens in Perth I went to Frementle by train. Frementle or also called Freo liegt direkt am Meer und ist eine sehr kleine gemuetliche Stadt. The city looks a bit surreal because of its old buildungs, which aren't really old. Looks like a italien holiday town with building from the wild west. I met a lot of intesting people mostly form england and irland. I also met a girl from germany, Hessen, who has been living in Australia for 10 years and recently moved to Freo

18. - 22. September Fortunately gibs es bikes im YHA und so I undertook ich severals tours mit dem bike up to the north beaches of Perth. The beaches are huge and the sand is very smooth. I accidently found a surf school, so nahm ich zwei lession in surfing, which is not as easy as i thought. Especally the jump up to the board and the paddeling is very exhausting.

Ich unternahm einige sightseeings in Freo and just used the time for relaxing. I spent some evenings with Marion, the hessische girl (hi Reinhard and Frank), and visited the maritime museum

23. - 29. September I undertook a 6-day conducted Tour to the north of WA. Wir waren insgesmat zwoelf Leute including a swiss couple. The other came from England und Irland.

We saw the Pinnacles Pinnacles (Nambung Nation Park) and stayed in Kalbarri overnight. Am naechsten Tag we went to the Loop (Natures Window) and the 'Z Bend Gorge' where I did the 'abseil' and we also saw the Stromatolites. Next day we went to Monkey Mia and saw the Dolphins there and headed to Coral Bay. On the way there we also stopped at shell beach, full of very small shells. On the other day we arravied at the Ningaloo Reef Ningaloo Reefand had pently of time for schnorcheln. I saw a turtle and encountered two sharks. We had a great fish-BBQ and headed back from Exmouth to Perth on the next Day. Alltogether we drove over 3.500 km auf dieser Tour.

30. September I went to the Royal Perth Show which is eine Art von Landwirtschaftsausstellung zu der alle Farmer von WA kommen. Am Abend I went to the movies in an Australien movie called 'Siam Sunset'

1. October Got up early, 8.00h, and went to Perth City to do some 'Winterschlussverkauf'-Shopping. Bought Andy a T-Shirt and went to Subiaco, a suburb of Perth. There a went to the Swiss Baker (SF1 Report) to get an Erbeertoertli. Later on I spend a few hours at the beach of Cotteslow, where I did bodyserfing.

In the evening a went out to Northbridge. We spent the evening in a Pub called Brassed Monkey, which is an old Restaurant from the good old gold rush time. Anyway, I thought I am in an Pub in Basel because of these many many Swiss people there. It's getting anoying. But I had a lot of fun with this dutch guy and we had a few 'Red Back' beers

2. October

I went to the Duyfken. Duyfken Duyfkenwas an armed jacht owned by the United Dutch East India Company which in 1604, captained by Willem Janszoon, madethe first historically recorded voyage to Austalia

3. October Ich besuchte Rottnest Island. The Island was named late in 1696 by the Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh who called it "Rotte-Nest" meaning rats nest, mistaking the Quokkas or Wallabis for huge rats.

4. October Because of the cold winds in Perth I cought a terrible cold und Husten so I bought any medicin I could get against a could and tried it out.
